YOLO stands for “You Only Look Once”. The name describes the principle: older methods examined an image in many steps, checking region after region. YOLO looks at the whole image in one pass and outputs the positions and classes of all detected objects simultaneously.

That makes detection fast enough for real-time video — and therefore practical for applications that must process large volumes of material.

That is exactly what anonymization demands: a folder of thousands of captures should finish in minutes, not days. Tools such as BlurTool therefore rely on such single-pass methods — and use the graphics card to accelerate them.
