History
The Goslarer Theater, shown here as a 3D tour, was for decades the cinema of Goslar’s old town. Its story begins in 1910, when the Wildmann family opened a cinema at the Fleischscharren near the market square. It remained a family business for generations.
In 1983 the cinema moved to Breite Straße 86, where it grew into a cinema centre with eventually five screens. Until 2019 it drew 30,000 to 35,000 visitors a year. During the Covid pandemic it stayed closed for almost 18 months before the curtain rose once more in 2021.
Rising energy costs brought screenings to an end: the Goslarer Theater closed on 26 September 2022. In December 2023 the operators announced that it would not reopen; its high-end projection equipment had already moved to the family’s Cineplex.
